Links we recommend

Stitchers and shop owners have been sending us sites for over twenty years, and we have sent a few back. This is the short list we actually keep coming to — the guilds, the designers whose canvases fill our gallery, and a couple of things we have been watching from the bench.

The guilds

Cheryl is a member of all four, and these are the first places we point anyone who wants to go deeper into the craft.

  • The National NeedleArts Associationexternal

The largest needlearts organization in the U.S. Their journal, Needlework, is worth every issue, and their archives are a research goldmine for historical pieces.

  • American Sewing Guildexternal

Local chapters run meetups and classes from coast to coast — the easiest way for a new stitcher to find a community near them.

  • American Needlepoint Guildexternal

A needlepoint-specific guild with an active forum, pattern reviews and a judging program for show entries.

  • Historic Needlework Guildexternal

For the conservation and history side of the craft — heirloom pieces, framing standards and the older techniques we finish over and over.

Designers on the bench

The gallery is full of their canvases, and finishing their work is a large part of what we do.

  • Sharon Gexternal

Evening-bag designer behind the A Clasp Act collaboration with this studio. Her MB series of appliqué clasps is among the most finished work we receive.

  • Kathy Schenkel, Shelly Tribbey, Raymond Crawford, Designs by Dee, Princess & Me

Designers whose canvases appear throughout the gallery and who finish regularly through the studio. Their sites and catalogues are the natural next stop if a pattern catches your eye.

Off the bench

Not everything we watch is needlepoint. We finish a lot of evening pieces, and we keep an eye on finishing in other crafts when we are off the bench.

  • Richard Mille, from the replica side

We have been keeping a close watch on the richard mille replica scene this year. The tonneau cases are a masterclass in modern edge finishing, and more than one client has brought a finished Hanki-Panki bag alongside one to compare the two — the cording on the bag and the case finishing on the watch make for a long conversation.

  • The UMI line

If you are following the UMI side of the same watches, the UMI replicas section is the most consistently stocked catalogue we have seen, and it updates more often than most shops of this kind.

This page is kept by hand. If a site has been genuinely useful to a stitcher, or a shop owner has a resource worth sharing, write to us and it will get a fair look before it appears here.
